# Prelude to Canto 3 (Vidura)

Though they appreciated the discussions regarding creation and destruction of the material world, the sages were more inclined to hear subject matters of a transcendental nature.

Saunaka Rishi thus returns to the discussion in Canto One, Chapter 13, and enquires about Vidura, who had left Hastinapura and met Maitreya Rishi on his travels. He enquires about the discussions between these two great personalities. He also wants to know Vidura’s history; why he left the palace, his activities on pilgrimage and how he eventually returned to meet his brother and relatives.

Suta Goswami thus narrates these events, recounting how Sukadeva Goswami explained the very same points to Maharaja Pariksit.
